Appetizer of the Week: Fiery Guacamole

I could eat guacamole like a champ.  Once you begin making your own from scratch, you will never eat store-bought guacamole again.  Since I love all things spicy, here is my rendition on the traditional recipe.  It's a sure hit for all of you hot sauce and pepper lovers out there, as well!

Ingredients:
- 3 ripened avocados
- 1 tomato
- 1 mammoth jalapeño
- 1 habañero
- handful fresh cilantro
- juice of 1 lime
- kosher salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- smoked paprika
- cumin
- ground chipotle powder
- oregano

First, wash and pat dry all of your fresh veggies.

Slice open the avocados, remove their seeds, and spoon out their fillings into a mixing bowl or large molcajete.

Mash the avocado using the molcajate, spoon, or fork.  Leave a few clumps in there so that your guacamole remains a little chunky.

Then, dice up your jalapeño and habañero.  Leave the seeds in if you want the guacamole to be fiery hot.

Mince the fresh cilantro as best as you can.  I'm never really good at this.

Lastly, dice up that tomato.

Add the lime juice, a palm-sized amount of freshly crushed oregano, and large dashes of smoked paprika, cumin, and chipotle chile powder.  Sprinkle on kosher salt and ground pepper to taste. Mix all of the ingredients together so that they have a smooth consistency.

Serve with a side of tortilla chips, and enjoy!

The habañero, jalapeño  and assorted spices create the perfect amount of heat. The avocado, cilantro, and lime juice are such a refreshing combination, as well. This guacamole also tastes great on tacos, burritos, panini sandwiches, my taco pie recipe, and salads.

Hope you'll like this recipe as much as we do!

  2. I love guac! Everyone who's tried mine has always said wonderful things. I end up going to parties or peoples houses and they tell me to make it as soon as I get there... they already have what I need! :) Have you tried using a red jalapeño? They are great and have a bit of a bigger kick to them. The other trick to real guac is Lime and Salt... lots of both! This is a wonderful post, it made me excited to go make some. www.marinebarbie.com

Thank you so much for stopping by! I love red jalapenos, but haven't thought to put them in guac yet. I love that idea and will be sure to do so next time!
